TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats fell to the No. 8 Arizona State Sun Devils in four sets (11-25, 25-20, 18-25, 22-25) on Thursday night in Tempe.
Arizona totaled seven service aces and six blocks. Jordan Wilson led the Wildcats with 17 kills and Carlie Cisneros followed with 11 kills. Adrianna Bridges led Arizona’s defense with five blocks and Britt Carlson had three blocks for the Cats.
Arizona State won the first set, 25-11. The Sun Devils jumped out to a large lead and totaled six blocks to hold the Wildcats to a -.091 hitting percentage. Wilson recorded four kills and hit .571 to lead the Cats and Cisneros added two kills for Arizona.
The Cats evened the match in the second set with a 25-20 win. Arizona served five aces and held ASU to a .133 hitting percentage to win the set. Wilson tallied four kills to lead the offense and served three aces to help Arizona even the match. Tucker totaled three kills and hit .750 in the set for the Cats.
The Sun Devils took the third set, 25-18. Both teams traded points before ASU used a 3-0 run to take the lead in the middle of the set and the Wildcats couldn’t come back. Wilson totaled five kills while Cisneros and Tucker added three kills for Arizona.
ASU won the fourth set, 25-22, to win the match. Arizona held the lead at 21-17 but ASU went on a run to tie the set and take the lead. The Wildcats had five blocks but the Sun Devils also had five blocks to take the edge over the Cats. Cisneros led the offense with five kills and Wilson followed with four kills. Bridges totaled four blocks for the Cats but it wasn’t enough for Arizona.
Arizona will hit the road to take on BYU on Wednesday, November 19 before heading to Utah on Friday, November 21.
