Anime Director Tatsuya Nagamine Has Died at 53

Anime director Tatsuya Nagamine, who directed titles like One Piece Film Z, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and Heartcatch Precure!, has passed away aged 53.
Scriptwriter Ryota Yamaguchi (Dokidoki Precure and Digimon Beatbreak series composer) was among those who tweeted about their attendance of Nagamine’s memorial service, which took place on November 13. According to X (formerly Twitter) user Shota (@shota_), who did key animation for Witchy Precure!! ~MIRAI DAYS~, Nagamine passed away in the summer of this year.
Nagamine was born in Tokyo’s Hino City on October 6, 1971. He joined Toei Animation in 1995, where he served as an assistant episode director on the 1999-2000 first season of Ojamajo Doremi.
According to Toei Animation‘s brief profile of Nagamine, he made his debut as episode director at the age of 29. His first director debut came with Interlude, a 2004 OVA based on a game. Nagamine later directed shows like Beet the Vandel Master, Gekijoban Dr. Slump Dr. Mashirito Abale-chan, and Eiga Yes! Precure 5 GoGo! Okashi no Kuni no Happy Birthday♪.
Nagamine’s other directorial credits include Happiness Charge Precure!, Dragon Ball Super (co-credit), and One Piece: Heart of Gold. In more recent times, he worked as unit director on animated videos celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ojamajo Doremi.
