In a hilarious roast caught on stump mic, Jasprit Bumrah mocked Temba Bavuma’s height by calling him ‘bauna.’ The jibe referred to his short height, as the expose has gone viral on social media.
The incident happened during the first Test of the two-game series held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After losing the toss, India were forced to field first, and Bumrah, alongside Siraj, opened the bowling with the new ball.
Jasprit Bumrah brutally mocks Temba Bavuma’s height
On the final delivery of the 13th over, Jasprit Bumrah delivered pure drama, firing a 141kph in-slanting ball that smashed into Temba Bavuma’s back thigh.
Instantly, Bumrah roared for LBW, convinced he had trapped the South African captain plumb in front. But Rishabh Pant shut it down, signalling it was too high, and Shubman Gill chose not to review.
During the conversation, Bumrah was sceptical, suggesting that Bavuma is short and height might not be an issue after all.
In classic Hindi slang, the right-arm pacer brutally mocked Temba’s height. When Rishabh Pant said, “Kitna upar laga hai,” Bumrah replied, “Bauna (short) bhi toh hai.”
Again, Pant tried to make sense by saying, “Bauna toh hai lekin upar laga hai yaha pe.”
A frustrated Bumrah later quipped, “Bauna bhi hai yeh ***.”
Interestingly, the ball-tracking later revealed Pant was right. The delivery was climbing and would have sailed over the leg stump.
Temba Bavuma survived, but not without taking a painful blow. Jasprit Bumrah, meanwhile, completed yet another ruthless wicket-maiden.
In the same over, he got rid of Aiden Markram. Extra bounce on a short-of-the-length delivery surprised Markram as he edged the fifth stump delivery to wicket-keeper Pant who completed a safe diving catch.
After Jasprit Bumrah got rid of Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram, Kuldeep Yadav sent Temba Bavuma packing, leaving South Africa reeling at 71/3.
