The Punt Acca: Charlie Huggins’ three horse racing tips at Cheltenham on Friday

A Pai De Nom (1.10 Cheltenham)

Dan Skelton’s handicap debutant finished ahead of two subsequent winners when making a successful start over hurdles in September and an opening mark of 116 looks lenient. A Pai De Nom backed up that winning Newton Abbot reappearance by chasing home the smart Gentleman Toboot at the same track, and the form of his debut second to the unbeaten Sober Glory also reads very well.

Fugitif (1.45 Cheltenham)

The 2023 December Gold Cup winner has an excellent reappearance record at this meeting, finishing second over 2m in 2022 before fourth and fifth-placed efforts in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. The ten-year-old makes his seasonal debut in much weaker company this time, and competes off 12lb better terms than when finishing four lengths clear of Protektorat on his comeback over this course and distance last year.

Double Powerful (2.20 Cheltenham)

The six-year-old completed a six-timer when landing the opening handicap hurdle for conditional riders on this card last year and made an encouraging chasing debut on his only other course start last month. Double Powerful stayed on to be third of 14 in that 2m4f novice handicap chase at the Showcase meeting, which suggests that this step up to 3m1f will suit. The selection has some excellent handicap hurdle form, including when third to Deep Cave — who followed up over fences at Bangor on Wednesday — at the Grand National meeting and the longer distance over fences may help him find the small improvement he needs to win this Listed novice chase.
