Offaly County Council has warned that ongoing flooding in Offaly has led to the closure of a number of roads in the local area.

Botley Lane, Portarlington is closed and likely to remain closed over the weekend. The river through Portarlington is overflowing its banks this morning (Friday).

N62 is flooded on the Birr side of the Black Bull, and signage is in place.

Earlier in the week, locals appealed for sandbags to prevent the flooding of their homes, as severe rain affected areas including Ballycumber, Clara, Raheen, Geashill, and Tullamore.

Road users were urged to take caution, with reports of rivers overflowing along the Roscrea to Birr road at the Offaly/Tipperary border and severe flooding in Moneygall village.

Engineers attended several sites on Wednesday evening in response to flooding issues.
