When Germany announced their squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia, four goalkeepers were included.
But with Julian Nagelsmann only allowed to name three goalkeepers in his matchday squad, Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu has been left out of the team to face Luxembourg.
Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann, Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel and Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen will be the three goalkeepers in the squad for Friday’s game.
“There are regulations on how many goalkeepers are allowed to be on the bench,” Nagelsmann explained at a press conference earlier this week.
“Whether you take eight goalkeepers or four, it’s always the same. I could even take twelve. The number allowed on the match sheet is always the same.”
Here are the squad numbers for Friday’s game:
1 Oliver Baumann
2 Malick Thiaw
3 Waldemar Anton
4 Jonathan Tah
5 Aleksandar Pavlovic
6 Joshua Kimmich
7 Jamie Leweling
8 Leon Goretzka
9 Assan Ouedraogo
10 Jonathan Burkardt
11 Nick Woltemade
12 Alexander Nübel
13 Felix Nmecha
14 Said El Mala
15 Nico Schlotterbeck
16 Kevin Schade
17 Florian Wirtz
18 Nathaniel Brown
19 Leroy Sané
20 Serge Gnabry
21 Finn Dahmen

Nico Schlotterbeck and Joshua Kimmich will miss the game through injury, while Karim Adeyemi is suspended.
