One of the top teams in Europe looks to clinch a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as Croatia takes on the Faroe Islands in UEFA qualification.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the biggest in the event’s history, with more countries competing for ultimate glory than ever before. That means qualifying is more important than ever before. While the powerhouse nations are always favorites to move on to the World Cup, there is always the chance for the smaller nations to pull off a stunner.
In next year’s World Cup, 16 countries under the UEFA banner will be eligible to compete in the tournament.
Croatia has had just one blemish on its qualifying record thus far, which came in a scoreless draw against Czechia last month. The country managed to bounce back with a 3-0 win over Gibraltar in October, putting Croatia within earshot of the World Cup.
Croatia sits first in Group L, needing just one point on Friday to clinch a spot in next year’s event.
The Faroe Islands might not have a chance to catch Croatia in the standings, but if they can pull off an upset, they might have a chance to sneak into a play-off spot.
The Faroe Islands managed to hold Croatia to a 1-0 score in September.
