TV and radio host Vernon Kay has expressed his delight after the BBC confirmed his latest television project.

The BBC Radio 2 presenter is currently gearing up for his appearance on this year’s Children In Need television appeal, scheduled for Friday (November 14), where he’ll join several other hosts.

However, it has now emerged that Vernon will return to television screens in 2026 with a fresh celebrity quiz programme, called Do You Know Your Place?

The news comes weeks after his wife Tess Daly announced she was stepping down from Strictly Come Dancing after more than two decades.

Produced by Stellify Media, which is based in Northern Ireland, each instalment will feature Vernon testing three celebrity contestants on their understanding of the UK, assisted – or perhaps complicated – by The Traitors star Paul Gorton, who takes on the role of Vernon’s ‘unreliable’ tour guide.

Paul will venture out to a different town or city in each episode, posing questions to the celebrities in the studio – their challenge being to distinguish truth from falsehood, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The celebrities will also participate in studio-based games with Vernon, with the contestant achieving the highest number of correct responses claiming victory, and an overall champion being declared at the week’s conclusion.

Vernon said of the new programme: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be fronting Do You Know Your Place? – it’s a cracking new quiz that’s all about the people and places we know best.

“It’s got great banter, brilliant guests, and that classic British competitive streak. I can’t wait for everyone to see it on BBC Two.”

The broadcaster has additionally commissioned another new BBC Daytime production with BBC Northern Ireland, Ronan Keating’s Wild Atlantic. The programme will follow the Boyzone singer as he explores Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Coast, which the BBC describes as “one of the most magical, beautiful and healing places on earth”.

The performer and television personality said: “It’s felt really special making this series, rediscovering magical places that have meant so much to me and my family.

“I was 16 when I left Ireland, and there was so much of the west coast I hadn’t seen. Now, I’m coming home, and I can’t wait for viewers to share all the laughter and tears along the way.”

Rob Unsworth, the BBC’s Head of Daytime and Early Peak Commissioning, expressed enthusiasm for both new programmes.

He added: “We can’t wait to share a brand new quiz, Do You Know Your Place? – in which Vernon Kay will see if famous faces can unpick which of the facts Paul from The Traitors tells them about our towns and cities are actually true.

“[And] for an unforgettable, stunning treat, join us for Ronan Keating’s Wild Atlantic, as the much-loved singer takes us on a deeply personal journey along the west coast of Ireland.”
