‘Alex Jones was right’ letter misrepresents the facts | Letter

To the Editor:
This letter is a response to an Oak Ridger letter titled, “Alex Jones was right, and that should terrify you. We must unite against fear” (Oct. 24). Unfortunately, the author is attempting to erroneously instill fear by mostly misrepresenting the facts.
There is no credible evidence or truth to the claim that “the libs” were planning to lock people up in FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) camps. This is a longstanding conspiracy theory that has circulated for decades, with no basis in reality. This theory thrives on distrust and misinformation, not evidence.
The author obfuscates the truth, stating, “Families are being kidnapped in the dead of night and locked in detention centers.” Reality is thousands of illegal immigrants are being arrested and legally removed from the country. There is a disturbing belief by some that these illegals belong here. Nothing is further from the truth. Ask yourself why some want to allow immigrants to enter our country illegally and then given citizenship benefits.
He claims that “Career public servants are driven out for refusing loyalty to one man instead of the country.” Civilian employees of the federal government swear an oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the U.S., not to any individual person or political leader.
Alex Jones was identified as “right-wing” in his article, yet the author contradicts himself, stating, “This has never been left versus right.” The truth is that since the French Revolution to the Cold War, there has been left versus right. The left-right divide persists today in forms like partisan polarization in the U.S., much like what the author is instigating in his article.
Finally, the author wasn’t identified as a political figure – Anderson County Tennessee Democratic Party chair. He should stick to the facts and dispense with obfuscating the truth.
