‘Offer deepest condolences’: ATP Finals rocked by two ‘tragic’ deaths in Turin crowd

The Italian Tennis Federation and ATP have confirmed that two spectators at the ATP Tour finals died from cardiac arrests on Tuesday morning AEDT.
Aged 70 and 78, the medical emergencies occurred separate from each other and at different times in Turin’s Inalpi Arena .
“The FITP and the ATP express their deepest condolences following the tragic passing of two spectators yesterday during the ATP Finals in Turin,” a joint statement said.

“The two individuals, aged 70 and 78, had come to the Inalpi Arena to attend the matches. Both suffered sudden cardiac incidents at different times during the day.

“On-site medical and emergency personnel responded immediately, providing all possible assistance.
“Despite prompt intervention and subsequent transfer to hospital, unfortunately, both sadly passed away.”
Tuesday’s opening match-up between United States’ Taylor Fritz and Italian hometown hero Lorenzo Musetti was momentarily delayed mid-way through, due to an announcement of a medical incident in the crowd.
Fritz won the match after the delay but subsequently fell to Carlos Alcaraz in his next group stage match. Alcaraz also beat Alex de Minaur earlier in a straight-set victory.
The ATP Finals are taking place until November 16 and offer a record £12m ($24.2 million AUD) in total prize money.
