Unborn baby, 33yo killed, P-plater charged

A heavily-pregnant mum and her unborn baby have died in Sydney’s northwest following a horror two-car crash involving a teenage driver.
Emergency services rushed to George Street in Hornsby on Friday about 8pm after receiving calls about a collision and reports a pedestrian had been hit.
Teams of paramedics found a 33-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, critically injured at the scene.
She was treated and then rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
But the woman and her unborn baby later died.
Police allege a white BMW had hit a Kia Carnival from behind, causing it to crash into the pedestrian.
The 19-year-old driver of the BMW and 48-year-old driver of the Kia were not injured.
Both were taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established and examined by police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Four hours later, police arrested the 19-year-old man from a home in Wahroonga.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a dangerous manner, negligent driving (occasioning death) and cause loss of foetus – death of pregnant woman.
The young man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Court on Saturday.
Police are due to provide an update at 11.30am.
