Disney’s Record-Breaking $153M Summer Franchise Hit Is Now No. 1 In The World On Disney+

Disney’s record-breaking summer franchise hit with a $153 million box office pull, Freakier Friday, is now Number 1 in the world on Disney+. A sequel to 2003’s rendition of Freaky Friday, the sequel sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman for yet another comedic body-swapping adventure with other characters in the mix.

Reviews for Freakier Friday were positive as soon as the film came out. Not only is it Certified Fresh with a 74% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s also Verified Hot from audiences, earning a 91%. Curtis and Lohan’s performances and the film’s formula were praised. It earned $153.2 million at the box office against a $42-45 million budget.

Now, FlixPatrol reports that Freakier Friday is the Number 1 movie on Disney+ worldwide, just days after its November 12 streaming release. The movie is Number 1 in 61 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Switzerland, Germany, Venezuela, and Australia to name a few. In the US, Freaky Friday also enjoys the Top 10 at Number 4.

However, it’s not the only movie starring Lindsay Lohan to be in Disney+’s global Top 10 as of writing. The Freakier Friday star is also getting worldwide attention for Freaky Friday, which comes in at Number 6, the 2000 comedy Life-Size at Number 8, and 1998’s classic family comedy The Parent Trap. All three come in on multiple top charts.

It’s not a surprise Freakier Friday managed to earn such a high spot on Disney+ right away, especially given how positive its reception was when it was in theaters. In its opening weekend, the sequel made $45 million worldwide, the biggest debut for a PG-rated movie in August in history. It maintained second place behind Weapons for two weeks.

As proven by its arrival on Disney+, the sequel is already proving itself a massive hit beyond its original theatrical release. Aided by both positive critical reception and audience acclaim, it’s not surprising the film has managed to drum up so much viewership in such a short amount of time. Curtis and Lohan’s returns are also a massive plus.

Since the film only just debuted on the platform, it seems like Freakier Friday will continue to have a strong performance on Disney+. The movie has plenty in its favor, considering how well its theatrical performance and reception was. This could mean it’ll be the top contender on the platform for a long time to come.
