Ravindra Jadeja gets outsmarted by Simon Harmer on 27 in IND vs SA 2025 1st Test [Watch]

South Africa spinner Simon Harmer outfoxed India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, trapping him plumb lbw on Day 2 (Saturday, November 15) of the first Test. The match is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The dismissal occurred on the third delivery of the 55th over of India’s first innings. Harmer delivered an arm ball, and Jadeja pressed forward in defence but couldn’t get his bat outside the line. The ball struck his pad before deflecting onto the bat, prompting the umpire to raise his finger. Jadeja reviewed the decision, but ball-tracking returned three reds, upholding the on-field call.

The southpaw departed for 27 off 45 deliveries, which included three boundaries. His dismissal left the hosts in trouble at 171/6 after 54.3 overs.

Team India resumed Day 2 on 37/1 with KL Rahul (13) and Washington Sundar (6) at the crease. The pair added 57 runs for the second wicket before Sundar was dismissed for 29 off 82 by Simon Harmer.

Skipper Shubman Gill, meanwhile, retired hurt after scoring four off three deliveries due to a neck spasm. Rahul also departed soon after, managing 39 off 119 balls. In the middle order, Rishabh Pant chipped in with a quickfire 27 off 24, while Dhruv Jurel couldn’t make much impact, scoring a run-a-ball 14.

Ravindra Jadeja fell to Simon Harmer for 27, giving the off-spinner his third wicket as South Africa continued to strike at regular intervals. At the time of writing, the hosts were 173/7 after 57 overs, with Axar Patel (3) and Mohammed Siraj (0) at the crease.

Earlier in the match, the Proteas were bundled out for 159 in 55 overs in their first innings, with Jasprit Bumrah claiming a five-wicket haul.
