Olly Murs Reflects on Estranged Relationship with Twin Brother During Podcast Appearance

In a heartfelt discussion on The Therapy Crouch podcast with Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch, Olly Murs opened up about his relationship with his estranged twin brother, Ben. This candid admission came in the wake of personal reflections sparked by the singer’s recent experiences as a father and his journey through family dynamics.
Olly, who recently welcomed his second child with wife Amelia, dove into memories of childhood after Abbey and Peter brought up the concept of “Irish twins,” referring to siblings born less than a year apart. This led him to describe his own twin brother, Ben, albeit with a note of sadness as he acknowledged their lack of communication over the years.
He remarked, “Well, I’m a twin, I’m a twin. Yeah, no one ever… I mean, yeah, me and my brother. Yeah, we haven’t spoken for a long time, but yeah, we were twins growing up, yeah,” before humorously clarifying, “I say, ‘We were twins’; we’re still twins.” When asked about their resemblance, he explained, “No, different eggs, yeah. Amazing, yeah. So, very special; twins are amazing. Like, when I look back at it, it was quite special growing up.”
The singer’s estrangement from Ben traces back to a significant incident in 2009, when Olly chose to compete on The X Factor instead of attending his brother’s wedding, where he was meant to serve as best man. This decision reportedly strained their relationship, with Ben publicly expressing his feelings of betrayal, suggesting that Olly valued his fame over family ties.

In an emotional moment on The Voice, Olly addressed his brother’s wedding absence, stating, “I was on X Factor and I couldn’t make his wedding because I was on the show,” revealing the conflict between personal and professional obligations.
Shifting the conversation to his personal life, Olly shared insights into his marriage to Amelia Tank, which, although described as moving past the “honeymoon period,” continues to be filled with love and joy. He reflected on how the tone of his music has evolved: “I wrote an album three years ago, and it was the Marry Me album. It was when we had no children, so it was like a honeymoon period. So it was like: ‘Oh, I love you. You’re amazing. You’re incredible.’ This album, I was able to be a little bit more cheekier with it. So when people hear it, the honeymoon period’s definitely gone, but in a fun way.”
