It’s official—more than 600,000 Americans will receive $1,000 payments from the Alaska Permanent Fund

Hundreds of thousands of Americans living in Alaska will soon receive a special payment of $1,000 thanks to a program known as Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). This money will be sent every year to residents of the state and it comes from Alaska’s earnings obtained from its natural resources, like oil and gas.

Even though this year the amount of money is less than the previous year, it’s still a very important aid for many American families. So, let’s see how you can check if you are eligible or not.

PFD?

This is a program that sends part of the money Alaska earns from its natural resources. Every year the government keeps part of that money in a special fund, and then it gives an amount to each resident that meets the requirements.

The aim of PFD is to share with Alaska residents the benefits coming from oil and gas the state owns. This year, each person will receive $1,000.

Important dates

Not every American will receive the money at the same time because the payment depends on the status of your PFD application. So, let’s see the date:

  • If your application says “Eligible – Not Paid” on November 12, you will get your payment on November 20.
  • If it still says “Eligible – Not Paid” on December 10, your payment will arrive on December 18.
  • If you still have not been paid by January 7, you will get the money on January 15.

To know when you will receive your money, you can check your PFD application on myPFD official website.

Americans, but all of them?

Not every American automatically qualifies to receive the PFD. Now, we are going to tell you which are the basic requirements you must meet to obtain this benefit:

  • You must have been an Alaska resident during all of 2024.
  • You must plan to live in Alaska permanently — not just temporarily.
  • You cannot claim residency in another state or country.
  • You must have been physically present in Alaska for at least 72 consecutive hours during 2023 or 2024.
  • If you were out of the state for more than 180 days, you must have had an approved reason, such as: attending school full-time, serving in the U.S. military, receiving medical treatment, caring for a family member, or settling the estate of a deceased relative.

What’s more, people who have been convicted of a felony or jailed for a felony or misdemeanor in 2024 won’t receive the payment.

How much money was sent before?

The PFD amount changes every year depending on the state’s earnings. Here, you can see how much Alaska residents received in the previous years:

  • 2024: $1,702
  • 2023: $1,312
  • 2022: $3,284
  • 2021: $1,114
  • 2020: $992
  • 2019: $1,606
  • 2018: $1,600

As you can see, the 2025 payment ($1,000) is lower than last year, but it’s still great economic support for Americans in Alaska.

When and how you can apply

Americans living in Alaska must apply every year in order to receive the money. The process to apply for the 2026 PFD will start on January 1 and will end on March 31. If you do it later that date, your application will be rejected.

When the period is open, you could go and enter the PFD official website and click on the option ‘’CLICK HERE TO FILE YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION’’. Keep in mind that to fill the application, you need to have a myAlaska account.

Both adults and kids can apply. In the case of kids, the father, mother, or tutor must have a valid application so that the minor receives the payment.

As you can see, the PFD is a unique tradition that shows how Alaska gives benefits from its resources to its citizens to help keep their economy and wellbeing.
