Escape From Tarkov has officially launched with the 1.0 update now live, and to coincide with that, the patch notes for the 1.0 patch have been released, bringing a lot of changes and new content.
With so much new content, the patch notes don’t go into the usual detail that we usually get with a patch release, but we do get a lot of info about what has been added. The main event is obviously the addition of the story mode content, which features branching paths and multiple endings as you play through the game. This story will tell the tale of Tarkov and its inhabitants, before finally, if you do well, allow you to actually escape from Tarkov.
As part of the final portion of the game a new map has also been added. Terminal is the final Tarkov map, and used to actually escape from Tarkov in the story mode. This is a unique late game map that does not play like many of the others in the game. Exact details are still thin on the ground, so we will have to wait for the people racing to complete Tarkov to play it before we know all of the details.
Given the 1.0 launch also sees the game launch on Steam, there is an expectation that a lot of new players will join the world of Tarkov, and to help them out a tutorial has been added to the game. While many people love the brutal start and almost impossible learning curve, it leaves a lot of players confused and makes them leave the game, so a quick tutorial and better onboarding is a welcome change.
For the longer term fans, there are also some cool additions to get excited about outside of the story mode. A load of new weapons have been added, the most we have seen for a while, and a lot of attachments have been expanded. In the launch trailer, a number of sights were seen with extra optics and attachments on them, which makes it seem like weapon customisation is about to go even deeper.

The full patch notes feature almost everything that has been added to Escape From Tarkov in the launch update, but prior to the launch, the development team mentioned that they were intentionally keeping some things secret so that players can discover them live in the game. So expect there to be a few more changes that we don’t know about yet, discovered in the coming days.
Right now thousands of people are trying to get into Tarkov, so the servers are taking a bit of a beating and it may take you a while to download the game and actually start playing. However, after years of waiting Escape From Tarkov has finally launched, a day that many thought may never come. So it is time to celebrate one of the best games ever made finally releasing, then it’s time to get into the server and start looting.
