Ray Parlour shares if he thinks Bukayo Saka is better than a prime Freddie Ljungberg

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour was asked to fuse together Mikel Arteta’s current squad and the legendary Invincibles side.

If Arsenal hadn’t already lost to Liverpool, there might’ve been talk about whether Arteta could replicate Arsene Wenger’s feat this season.

The Gunners made history with their eighth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, with no team looking as though they could even challenge Arsenal right now.

Having played with some of the very best at Highbury, Ray Parlour knows more than most what it takes to be comparable to Arsenal’s legends, with his latest feedback something that Bukayo Saka will love.

Ray Parlour says Bukayo Saka would get into Arsenal’s Invincible squad

On talkSPORT, Parlour was discussing with Ally McCoist whether any of the current Arsenal squad would get into the 2003/04 Invincibles team.

Having gone an entire Premier League season unbeaten, the requirements to dislodge the Invincibles squad are high, but Parlour thinks Saka would make the cut.

Freddie Ljungberg was the most commonly used right-winger in Wenger’s unbeaten squad, though Parlour believes Arteta’s current option is better.

“You’ve got to go, probably Saka. Got to go, Saka. Yeah. Freddie was good. But Saka’s got to be there on that right-hand side for me,” the Arsenal icon said.

The Romford Pele went on to explain why he chose the Hale End product over Ljungberg.

“He’s played 200 Premier League games already at a young age,” Parlour said.

“Unbelievable. So if he can keep improving like he has, he’s going to be one of the all-time greats for Arsenal.”

Saka has hit some incredible Arsenal milestones at the age of just 24, and added to that, his Premier League tally already exceeds Ljungberg’s, scoring 55 goals to the Swede’s career record of 48.

Saka made the cut, but who else from Arsenal’s current side joined the England international?

McCoist chipped in to select the goalkeeper, choosing David Raya over Jens Lehmann.

Parlour took the reins to name the remainder of the team, but he encountered some problems.

Lauren and Jurrien Timber could not be split at right-back, Parlour saying, “50/50, throw of a coin that one.”

The remainder of the defence, however, spoke for itself, with Ashley Cole joining William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

In midfield, Patrick Vieira and Declan Rice partnered; what a sight to behold that would be.

Then, joining Saka in attack was an Invincibles trio, Robert Pires and, of course, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.

If anyone thought the Arsenal squad of today was good, imagine it with Bergkamp and Henry in it, something everyone would love to see.
