The Mets added some potential minor league depth Friday, signing utility infielder Jackson Cluff to a minor league deal with an invitation to major league spring training.
The 28-year-old has spent his entire career in the minors with Washington.
He appeared in 103 games with their Triple-A Rochester affiliate, with a .771 OPS, playing second, third and shortstop.
He likely will compete for a spot at Triple-A Syracuse.
If Cluff is needed in Queens, something has likely gone wrong, but the Mets have several questions regarding their infield as the offseason progresses.
At the top of the list is the future of Pete Alonso, a free agent for the second straight year and coming off a significantly better season.

They have Francisco Lindor at shortstop, but Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, Ronny Mauricio and Luisangel Acuña haven’t found spots where the Mets feel comfortable using them every day, and Jeff McNeil has lost a step defensively.
