Santa Claus is coming to Waterloo Region this weekend

Even though snow didn’t last too long in Waterloo Region, the list of weekend events, including upcoming Santa Claus parades, is sure to bring a big rush of that Christmas spirit.

Although the events will bring holiday cheer to the region, the forecast will make it feel more like a wet autumn day for Saturday’s K-W and Cambridge parades.

“The active weather pattern is not letting up, and for the weekend, it is going to be unsettled,” said 570’s Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi. “Tomorrow we even have the risk of thunderstorms, so we had snow and flurry activity early this week, and now we have thunderstorms.

She said, at the very least, it will be a bit of a warmer-than-usual day, with a high of 11 C.

Those parades get rolling in the morning across Kitchener and Waterloo, with the K-W Santa Claus Parade starting at 10:00 a.m. It will run along Weber Street beginning in Kitchener at Frederick Street and push all the way up to Erb Street in Waterloo.

Later in the evening, it will be Cambridge’s turn, with its Santa Claus parade beginning at 6:00 p.m. It will travel along Hespeler from Dunbar roads. through to Langs Drive

Moving to Sunday, though, Andreacchi said it should be shifting back towards a bit of a wintery day with some possible flurries in the forecast.

“Sunday is not all-day active weather; it is a very windy day,” Andreacchi mentioned. “Winds will be gusting 60 to 70 kilometres per hour. We may see a special weather statement issued for the region.”

She said it will be a bit of a temperature shift as well, with a high of 5 C and a low of -1 C.
