‘We Can Hurt Any Team’ – Doncaster Rovers Man Bullish Ahead Of Imps Trip

Doncaster Rovers man Jordan Gibson believes his side are one win away from a run ahead of their trip to the Bank tomorrow.

Doncaster arrive without a league win in nine, although their midweek comeback in the EFL Trophy has clearly stiffened their resolve. With Rovers not having lost at the Bank since 1997, history does appear to be on their side. Gibson is certainly confident. He told the Yorkshire Post:

“I think we just need that one positive result to take confidence from that and go on a run. We can hurt any team, to be honest, when we are in our game and taking the chances.”

The problem for Doncaster is that the numbers do not really back that up in league action, and while their Trophy comeback was eye-catching enough, only a very small away following saw it, and the step up on Saturday will be significant.

City have been strong at home and the atmosphere around the Bank has begun to feel more assured after the midweek win against a strong Barnsley outfit.

“It’s about getting into a rhythm of winning games – we’ve done it last season as well and the majority of the group is still the same – and we still have the same mentality and belief within ourselves.”

27-year-old Gibson made his name with a spell at Carlisle United, playing against the Imps on the day Luke Plange actually scored a Sincil Bank goal. Plange might have taken confidence from that, and Gibson is doing the same after his brace against Bradford in the EFL Trophy.

“After Saturday, coming back in the team and having a few chances, I was hard on myself (against Barnsley). So I went home disappointed and kind of felt I let the team down.

“I’ve come on (versus Bradford) and impacted the game and got a couple of goals, which I can take confidence from.”

It looms like being a wet and windy afternoon at the Bank, with conditions not favouring a fluid, free-flowing game of football.
