Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day
Wycombe
Port Vale v Wycombe
League Two, 3pm Saturday
There are only five League One fixtures taking place this weekend and the reduced schedule may work to the advantage of mid-table Wycombe, who head to second-bottom Port Vale with a fantastic opportunity to climb into the top half.
A free weekend may afford other third-tier clubs the opportunity for extra work on the training ground and get injured players closer to full fitness. But Wycombe will be more than happy to carry on playing as they aim to build on a ten-match unbeaten run.
The Chairboys started the season slowly and opted for a change of direction in mid-September, with Michael Duff replacing Mike Dodds in the dugout.
Duff soon set about simplifying Wycombe’s style and his impact has been obvious with 14 points accrued from seven league games.
Wycombe rose to 14th following last Saturday’s 4-1 triumph at home to Leyton Orient, but they have ambitions to get involved in the promotion race and will be targeting three points on their trip to Port Vale, who are at risk of an immediate return to League Two.
Darren Moore’s Valiants have lost their last three league games and are the division’s lowest scorers with just 11 goals in 15 matches.
They looked devoid of confidence in last weekend’s 4-0 defeat at Bolton and are unlikely to bounce back against the Chairboys, who are seeking a fourth straight success.
