Argentina kicked off their autumn international series with a big win over Wales in Cardiff last weekend but their schedule gets tougher with a clash at Murrayfield on Sunday, followed by a tricky trip to face England at Twickenham.

The Scots gave New Zealand a big scare in Edinburgh last week and have won seven of their last nine meetings with Los Pumas.

Scotland vs Argentina preview

Scotland will feel they let a big opportunity slip when they lost to New Zealand last week and it would be no surprise to see them come out firing when they face Argentina on Sunday.

Having trailed 17-0 to the All Blacks, the Scots fought back to trail 17-14 and had chances to go ahead before a late score from Damian McKenzie sealed a 25-17 defeat.

The hosts are narrow favourites to overcome an Argentina team who have beaten New Zealand, Australia and the British & Irish Lions this year, and ran out 52-28 winners over Wales in Cardiff last week.

A key part of the Pumas’ success under head coach Felipe Contepomi is their expansive running game and that could well lead to another open contest against Scotland.

Both teams have plenty of attacking flair in their line-ups. Scotland fly-half Finn Russell is one of the most creative number tens in the world, while opposite number Geronimo Prisciantelli ran in two tries against Wales last week.

There’s back-up on the bench, too, with Scotland having giant winger Duhan van der Merwe ready to come on and terrorise a tiring defence and Argentina’s dangerous full-back Santiago Carreras also capable of having a big impact as a substitute.

Scotland have won the last four meetings between the teams in Edinburgh, most recently landing a 52-29 victory in 2022 which featured a total of 12 tries.

Dry, clear conditions are forecast in Edinburgh and the best bet looks to be on another entertaining and high-scoring encounter.
