Marcus Smith has seen his place in Steve Borthwick’s starting XV diminish over the last 12 months but played a role in England’s 38-18 win over Fiji last weekend. The 26-year-old has endured a tricky start to the season with club side Harlequins.

Smith was in at full-back at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium and helped his side to six tries in a commanding victory. Next on the agenda however are the All Blacks, whom England have not defeated since 2019.

Freddie Steward is back in at 15 versus New Zealand after nursing a finger injury and so Smith will drop to Borthwick’s bench, looking to make an impact as a super sub. We take a look at the back’s life away from the field, including his jaw-dropping girlfriend, huge net worth and desire to represent another country

Desire to represent a different country

Smith made his England test debut in 2021 but he only moved to the country aged 13. Before this, he lived in his birthplace of the Philippines and later in Singapore. Smith’s mother is Filipina and he grew up in the Asian country until the age of eight.

Although he is focused on England at the moment, Smith admits that one day he would like to represent or be involved with his country of birth on the world’s biggest stages, just like one of his siblings currently is.

Speaking about his ambitions during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ segment with England Rugby, Smith said: “One day I’d love to help and be involved in Philippine rugby – my brother currently plays for the Philippines.

“Right now, my heart and mind are fully with England. It’s a dream to wear this kit. But one day that might be different… if the chance comes and my body holds up, it would be amazing to play alongside my younger brothers.”

Marcus Smith’s girlfriend

The Harlequins star is cheered on from the sidelines by his stunning girlfriend Beth Dolling. It is unclear when the pair first met, but Smith has been dating Dolling since 2019.

Dolling, 25, currently works as a model and has appeared in online campaigns for the likes of Harvey Nichols. She has also dabbled with singing.

On her social media, she shares pictures of herself and Smith’s adventures and is often present at his matches. She was in the stands when he grasped a starting role against Fiji.

She has over 40,000 followers on Instagram and according to her account, she is signed to M Model Management, based in Manchester, as well as Body London.

Marcus Smith’s massive net worth

According to estimates, Smith’s fortune stands at £1.5million. This has primarily been generated from his already lengthy rugby career for England and Harlequins.

Smith has also signed a range of lucrative brand deals from his time in professional rugby. He has represented the likes of Nike, Lucozade Sport and Tissot.

In 2024, he penned a new deal with his Premiership side that will keep him with Quins until 2028. This deal reportedly nets Smith around £600,000 annually and is bolstered by his £160,000 RFU central contract.

Smith said at the time: “I love the club; it’s given me and my family so much over the years. Every time I step into the training ground, I’m excited about the future because of the talent we have here.”
