Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen is set to undergo a scan after experiencing groin discomfort on international duty with Spain.
Huijsen, 20, was not included in the Spain matchday squad for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia.
The centre-back experienced the issue during Friday’s training session and has been left out of the squad for Saturday’s game as a precaution.
Huijsen has featured twice for Spain during their World Cup qualifying campaign, playing the full 90 minutes of September’s victories over Bulgaria and Turkey.
However, he was forced to withdraw from the Spain squad for October’s fixtures due to injury and missed the qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria. Aymeric Laporte partnered Robin Le Normand at centre-back in his absence. The injury also forced him to miss Madrid’s matches against Juventus and Getafe.
Huijsen has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Madrid this season following his £50million summer move from Bournemouth.
On Friday, Kylian Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga both withdrew from the France squad through injury and returned to Madrid. Mbappe was experiencing inflammation in his right ankle, while Camavinga had sustained a muscle strain to his left hamstring. Madrid expect both players to be available to face Elche on November 23.
Spain are top of their World Cup qualifying group and could secure their place at next summer’s tournament with victory over Georgia on Saturday, if second-place Turkey slip up against Bulgaria, who have lost all four of their qualifying matches. Should Turkey beat Bulgaria, Luis de la Fuente’s side can guarantee automatic qualification when they play Turkey on Tuesday.
