Saturday’s World Cup qualifying predictions
Unsurprisingly, European champions Spain are one win away from securing their spot at next summer’s World Cup with a game to spare and they should seal their cross-Atlantic passage with minimal fuss against Georgia.
La Roja have been sensational in qualifying, winning their four games by an aggregate 15-0 scoreline despite often missing key men Rodri, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, and Luis de la Fuente will want to keep that form going.
Georgia’s only shot in the reverse fixture was worth just 0.01 expected goals and they are likely to be frustrated by Europe’s best again.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will provide a threat for the Crusaders but without star striker Georges Mikautadze their efforts may again prove fruitless.
Like Spain, Slovenia have shown their defensive sturdiness, holding Kosovo and Switzerland to 0-0 draws last month and shutting out England and Portugal at Euro 2024. But, as is often the case with sides whose strengths lie in stifling, they tend to be more open at home.
The pressure from the stands to be more expansive has resulted in Matjaz Kek’s side keeping just three clean sheets in their last nine home games, suggesting Kosovo could make up for last month’s blank.
Slovenia have scored just two goals in their last four games, failing to win any of them, and Kosovo, who have tasted success in seven of their last nine, look overpriced to secure three points which would seal a top-two finish and take them one step closer to qualifying for their first World Cup.
