The 27-year-old was replaced in the second half by Wesley, leaving Brazil’s coaching staff concerned and Arsenal fans fearing the worst.
Gabriel was seen walking gingerly to the bench after a prolonged period lying on the pitch.
His potential absence comes at the worst possible time for Arsenal, who face arch-rivals Tottenham in one of the most crucial fixtures of their season after the international break.
Arteta has relied heavily on Gabriel’s partnership with William Saliba, and losing him would be a massive blow to the Gunners’ preparations.
