Tennessee is set to debut its 2025 edition of the Smokey Grey uniforms this Saturday afternoon during the game against New Mexico State in Neyland Stadium. The “Volunteer Spirit” uniforms continue the innovation on the smokey grey series with a tribute to the United States Armed Forces.
These one-of-a-kind uniforms are full of unique details, including a Davy Crockett stripe on the helmet and shoulders, a two-tone look between the jerseys and the pants, and the stencil numbers on the front and back of the jersey.
One detail that fans will love to see is the return of the “Star Vols” logo, which will be presented as a “military-inspired patch on the front of the pants and on the front helmet bumper,” according to UT Athletics.
Tennessee’s original press release also stated that the fan-favorite logo will be used for the first time since the turn of the century. According to Chad Fields on X, the last time the Star Vols logo was used was Nov. 30, 1996, during a game at Vanderbilt. The last time it was seen in Neyland Stadium was the prior week against Kentucky.
The Star Vols logo can often be seen on fan merchandise on gameday, but this will be the first time in a long time that it’s worn on the field by the Big Orange.
