NEW YORK—Ahead of UFC 322, fast-rising bantamweight contender Malcolm Wellmaker joins MMA Fighting’s José Youngs to discuss everything from Wellmaker’s wide-ranging love of anime (including Hunter x Hunter and Demon Slayer, among others) to video games to having never seen Pokémon, and more.
Wellmaker is just 10 fights into his pro career, but he’s already built himself a reputation as a devastating knockout artist. After earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series at the tail-end of 2024 with a first-round knockout of Adam Bramhald, Wellmaker followed that up with fast finishes in his first two UFC appearances, taking out Cameron Saaiman and Kris Moutinho in under three minutes. Overall, Wellmaker has won six fights by KO/TKO, and two by submission.
This Saturday on the preliminary portion of UFC 322, Wellmaker looks to continue his winning ways when he fights last-minute replacement Ethyn Ewing, who steps in as a replacement for an injured Cody Haddon.
