Kalen DeBoer talks missed field goal, turnovers, offensive struggles after Oklahoma loss

Alabama just made too many mistakes.

The Crimson Tide had to overcome an interception, multiple fumbles as well as a missed/blocked kick. In total, it all proved to be too much.

No. 4 Alabama fell to No. 11 Oklahoma 23-21 on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. That marks the first home loss for the Crimson Tide (8-2, 6-1 SEC).

After the loss, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer addressed reporters.

Here’s a recap of some of what he said.

Kalen DeBoer press conferences after Alabama loses to Oklahoma

— DeBoer: “The guys are disappointed.”

— DeBoer: “The guys are going to fight. I know the character of the team.”

— DeBoer pointed to the turnovers as the biggest problem.

— DeBoer on the field-goal miss before halftime: “We’ve got to find a way to kick it through when it’s not perfect.” DeBoer said Alabama needed to execute better in all ways on the miss.

— DeBoer on the offensive struggles: “I think we had almost 275 yards in the first half. What’s disappointing is the turnovers. Even the interception, we were working deep into their own territory.” … DeBoer felt like Alabama executed better on offense this week against a good defense, but … “the big mistakes were the ones that hurt us.”

— DeBoer on the sack fumble: “With the pressure that they brought, he’s got to get rid of it and be OK with throwing it away.” … “You’ve got to live with punting once in a while.”

— DeBoer asked if there’s too much on Ty’s shoulders? “No. I think we had enough quick game and enough quick throws out there … I thought he managed it well. This game could have gone a whole different direction.” … “Most of the snaps we played pretty good football. It’s the ones that were big that hurt us.”
