Islam Makhachev shares his honest and unhinged opinion on Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon. The former lightweight champion believes that McGregor’s return is a distant thought. One of the major reasons behind it is Khabib Nurmagomedov. Makhachev is of the opinion that Khabib broke McGregor’s mind, and this had to do with the brawl that the fighters had in 2018. Islam believes that there is a chance that even Jon Jones might return. But the Irish fighter is not returning for the UFC’s massive event at White House in June 2026.McGregor has been away from the Octagon for several years now. With a couple of fights remaining in his contract with the promotion, McGregor has been teasing his return constantly. Recently, the fighter expressed his interest in appearing at the UFC event scheduled at White House for the summer of 2026. McGregor last fought against Dustin Poirier in 2021. The fighter suffered an injury during that fight. Even though, at a later stage, McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, the fight was cancelled due to the former’s injury.

Conor McGregor has expressed his interest in getting back into the Octagon at the White House. The event has been scheduled for the summer of 2026. However, not everyone shares the same opinion as the fighter. Islam Makhachev, the former UFC lightweight champion and teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov, believes that the Irish fighter is not returning any time soon. In an interview with the Complex, Islam stated, “No, this guy is never coming back. Khabib broke his mind, you know.” Islam believed that Khabib had a major role in McGregor not returning to the ring. McGregor and Khabib shared one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history. It came out in the open in 2018 when Khabib submitted McGregor, and an instant brawl broke out between the two teams.

Explaining McGregor’s situation, Islam further stated, “This guy is not coming back. He’s never going to fight anymore. I told this like two years ago, and I still think he’s not going to fight. And now he has disqualification from the anti-doping commission, I heard, and that’s why I think no. Maybe Jon Jones will come back to fight at the White House, but no Conor.”Islam even referred to the 18-month suspension that McGregor had to face for failing to disclose his whereabouts during the test. The suspension was invoked by the UFC anti-doping program, Combat Sports Anti-Doping.
