The M6 has partly closed due to a “serious crash” involving a car and a pedestrian. Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 19 (Tabley, Knutsford) and junction 20 (Lymm) at around 9am on Sunday, November 16.

National Highways confirmed emergency services including Cheshire Police and the North West Ambulance Service all attended the scene. North West Air Ambulance landed in an adjacent field near the junction 19 roundabout.

Cheshire Police will be carrying out investigation work and National Highways added the closure is expected to be “protracted” and in place for several hours today. Traffic management system Inrix said there is “very slow” traffic due to the incident.

The southbound carriageway is also closed at junction 19 and traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. This is known as an “up and over” closure.

A diversion route is in place and diverted traffic should follow the solid square diversion symbol, National Highways said.

The diversion route is as follows:

– Leave M6 NB at Jct 19.

– At M6 Jct 19/A556 Rbt, take third exit onto A556 NB and follow for 7.3km.

– At A556/A56 Bowden Rbt, take forth exit and follow the link road from A556 Boudon Rbt to A556 Sb for 0.2km.

– At A556/M56 Jct 8 Jct, turn onto M56 Jct 8 WB entry slip road and follow M56 WB for 8.5km.

– Leave M56 WB at Jct 9 to rejoin route on the M6 NB.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
