Portugal looks to lock up a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, as they wrap up UEFA qualification against Aremenia.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the biggest in the event’s history, with more countries competing for ultimate glory than ever before. That means qualifying is more important than ever before. While the powerhouse nations are always favorites to move on to the World Cup, there is always the chance for the smaller nations to pull off a stunner.
In next year’s World Cup, 16 countries under the UEFA banner will be eligible to compete in the tournament.
Portugal already had a chance to clinch a spot in next year’s event. Against Ireland this past Thursday, the Portuguese struggled to get their offense going, suffering a 2-0 loss.
They come into Sunday first in Group F, two points ahead of Hungary, and three in front of Ireland. A win for Portugal punches their ticket to the World Cup, while a draw only gets them through if Hungary does not beat Ireland by more than two goals.
Armenia has already been eliminated thanks to losing four of its first five matches.
Portugal picked up a 5-0 win over Armenia in their first meeting over two months ago.
