Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles preview
It wasn’t pretty, but the Philadelphia Eagles survived a Lambeau Field battle to claim victory in Monday’s battle with the Green Bay Packers.
Life doesn’t get any easier for the Super Bowl champions against the Detroit Lions, who looked as explosive as ever with Dan Campbell as their new play-caller in a 44-22 win over Washington.
While the Eagles offence left a lot to be desired in a 10-7 win over the Packers, their defence looked better than it has all season, holding a talented Packers’ offence to 261 total yards and four yards per pass as new recruit Jaelan Phillips contributed four solo tackles and six defensive stops.
The Eagles also sacked quarterback Jordan Love three times, and their top-tier secondary left him scrambling to find an open receiver on the vast majority of plays. They also held Josh Jacobs to just 74 yards on the ground.
While Campbell’s new role is interesting and the Lions are a formidable outfit, a Sunday Night Football clash with the Super Bowl winners is far more daunting than a meeting with a sorry Commanders team.
Returning home to a raucous Philadelphia crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles should cover the handicap.
