Pickford keeps another clean sheet for England against Serbia

England 2 – 0 Serbia

Jordan Pickford won his 81st cap, tending goal for England in their World Cup Qualifier against Serbia at Wembley on Thursday night.

Saka scored with a well-taken volley in the first half. And in the last minute before added time at the end of the game, Eze scored England’s second, a fine first-time finish off Foden’s pass.

With this result, Jordan Pickford extended his own record to 10 consecutive clean sheets for England.

What’s the betting on England winning and Jordan Pickford getting another clean sheet?

Huge let-off for England and Pickford on 80 minutes, some Serbian bloke volleying inches wide with his despairing dive well beaten… but it would have been flagged offside.

Then Vlahovic curled one for the top corner and it went just inches over the bar — that one would have counted!

Apologies to piggy back on this thread, but two other toffees were excellent for Ireland tonight. Coleman in particular, was fantastic. Still a few mile left in his tank.

Great result for Rep of Ireland. Haven’t seen the match or the team that Portugal put out but it’s good to see Coleman still able to play at that level…

Ian

Portugal put out their best. Ronaldo got a petulant red card (I guess he’s no longer getting special treatment unlike Messi?) but it was already done by then. Shame Ireland dropped so many points to poorer teams but maybe the Icelandic fella has turned the ship. Funny seeing Partot like the erstwhile Everton starlet Price making a name for himself in the Low Countries and for an Irish national side. If he keeps it up and they revive Ferguson there is hope for Ireland.

Not convinced about Tuchel despite the recent upturn in results. Just yesterday he said Foden and Bellingham can’t play together then today he brought them both on at the same time. I feel he has a bit of the Moyes about him. Prefers hard working
unsung heroes than managing the egos that come with stars. Surely the only Bayern coach in modern history to fail to win a single trophy perhaps for that reason.

Jordan Pickford has now extended his run of clean sheets for England to ten; two more than Gordon Banks in 1966, six decades ago!

He is by some distance the best England keeper today. I don’t think that either Henderson or Trafford are serious competition. Jordan is our best keeper since our greatest keeper, Neville Southall.

Yet Jordan is often singled-out as a potential unsafe pair of hands by elements in the national media and on these pages.

He makes mistakes. Goalkeepers’ mistakes are always inevitably magnified. That’s part and parcel of being between the sticks. Some have even claimed that Jordan costs us more points than he has gained. That borders on malice aforethought because they don’t know.

Praise Jordan, don’t try to bury him. He is a terrific keeper and from what I see, a helluva nice fella. He’s 31, an excellent age for a keeper. I want at least five more years’ I just wish that those clean sheets had been for us not the country.

It occurred to me today that if you have inevitable teething-problems and big loud hiccups on a site like this one, then it’s smart to plan them for an international break.

Hi Kieran,

Makes their result against Portugal even better. Sets them up for the Hungary game. Don’t know much about Troy Parrott.

Also remember Tuchel mentioned that Bellingham, Foden and Kane couldn’t play in the same team, not just the first two. Foden came on for Kane. But, I’m not convinced by him either. His job is to find a team to win the World Cup. Not sure if his remit is to include entertaining the world.
