COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will host its first Power 5 opponent of the season on Sunday when the Buckeyes welcome Notre Dame to Value City Arena. Tip-off is set for 12:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on FS1. Alex Cohen and Laphonso Ellis will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- Sunday will be the culmination of Jerry Lucas Legacy Weekend. A statue of Lucas will be unveiled outside the arena on Friday, he will take part in the Victory Bell ringing on Saturday at the football game, and he will dot the I in the Ohio State Fall Athletics Band’s incomparable Script Ohio at halftime on Sunday.
- Sunday’s game will be the first of a home-and-home series between Ohio State and Notre Dame as the teams are also scheduled to meet next season in South Bend on Dec. 12, 2025.
- The teams have met 13 times previously and Ohio State holds a 9-4 edge in the series.
- The Buckeyes have won each of the last three meetings with the most recent Notre Dame win coming in 1973. Ohio State is 3-2 in Columbus against the Irish.
- Ohio State has opened the season with three home victories over IU Indy, Purdue Fort Wayne and Appalachian State. The Buckeyes are averaging 95.7 points per game and are sixth in the country in effective field goal percentage at 66.4 percent.
- Bruce Thornton, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week, leads the team in scoring at 25.7 ppg. He is shooting over 70 percent from the floor and over 56 percent from long range.
- Thornton is just three points away from passing current Director of Recruiting and former Big Ten Player of the Terence Dials for 14th place on the program’s all-time scoring list.
- John Mobley Jr. has averaged 17.0 points per game and leads the team at 5.0 assists per game.
- Transfer forward Brandon Noel is coming off his 30th career double-double as he posted team highs of 17 points and 11 assists in the win over App State. He leads the team at over eight rebounds per game.
- This will be the first of three scheduled games against ACC teams over the next month. The Buckeyes will also play at Pitt in two weeks and then take on North Carolina on Dec. 20 in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta.
- Notre Dame has also opened the year with three home victories. The Irish are shooting it as a team better than 42 percent from long range. Markus Burton leads the team in scoring at 19.3 ppg while Carson Towt is fifth in the country in rebounds per game at 13.3 rpg.
