Charlotte Amber Alert Update: Missing Infant Found After Abduction Report on Monroe Road

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued the alert shortly after reports of the abduction surfaced.

An Amber Alert issued for a missing 10-month-old girl from Charlotte, North Carolina, was canceled Tuesday evening after the child was reportedly found safe, according to state and local authorities. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed the alert’s cancellation hours after it was issued, though officials have not released additional information on the recovery or the ongoing investigation.

Earlier, the alert described the infant as having been abducted from the 6600 block of Monroe Road, a busy corridor in southeast Charlotte, on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said the child was believed to be traveling in a blue minivan with two adults identified as Michelle Cheyanne Hemphill, 19, and Timothy Lee Smith, 23. Both individuals were described as having black hair and brown eyes, with Hemphill standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, and Smith measuring 5 feet 4 inches and 160 pounds.

Child Found Safe; Circumstances Still Under Investigation

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued the alert shortly after reports of the abduction surfaced. Within hours, the case drew attention from both state and local media, including WBTV and WSOC-TV, as law enforcement agencies worked rapidly to locate the missing infant.

By Tuesday evening, the alert was officially lifted. Authorities have not disclosed whether Hemphill or Smith are in custody, nor have they provided updates about the circumstances surrounding the disappearance. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stated that the investigation remains active and that further details will be released “as appropriate.”

The case sparked immediate concern among Charlotte residents, with multiple local outlets amplifying the alert and urging the public to remain vigilant. Social media posts flooded with relief following the confirmation that the child had been found safe.
