Strictly fans work out who is going home after spotting this worrying sign in Saturday’s show

Strictly Come Dancing fans are convinced one couple will narrowly miss out on making it through to the iconic Blackpool Week because of which slot they danced in on Saturday night’s show.

None of the celebrities want to be sent home at any point, but they really don’t want to be sent home this week. With Blackpool in sight, this is possibly the worst week to be voted off in the whole series, aside perhaps from the semi-final.

Last night’s show saw Balvinder and Julian and Vicky and Kai taking joint bottom place on the leaderboard… but while both couples are in danger of facing the dance off in theory, fans are mainly worried for Balvinder simply because she danced first.

No one wants the pressure of opening the show, but that isn’t the only reason the celebs want to avoid going first at all costs… It is because notoriously that slot can be doomed, with many couples who go first then finding themselves facing the chop on a Sunday night.

Having already survived three dreaded dance-offs in this series – more than anyone else in this year’s show – Balvinder was already the bookies’ favourite to leave the competition this weekend. But now that she has danced first, added to the fact that she is joint bottom of the leaderboard, fans are panicking…

“Balvinder going first on Strictly probably means she’ll be in the dance-off,” noted one fan. While another agreed: “Balvinder and Julian dancing first – I’m nervous!”

Another fan asked for everyone to vote for the EastEnders star in a bid to keep her in the competition: “Balvinder is up first, she needs all the votes tonight!”

Someone else predicted: “I really hope that Bal and Julian will be saved by the public votes. But, honestly, as much as I hate saying, I think that this week they are out.”

Balvinder danced an American Smooth with Julian, and although she only scored a total of 27, the judges praised her for working on her footwork and delivering a solid performance.

Anton told her she had “lovely musicality and characterisation” and that she “sold it well but it felt a little safe”, while Craig advised her to watch her recovering arm but that she “always dances with conviction” and is a “beautiful storyteller”.

Shirley told the soap star that she could tell she’d been working on her feet, and now she had work on her upper half.

Along with Balvinder and Julian at the bottom of the leaderboard were Vicky and Kai – a bit of a shock for the couple after last week’s leaderboard-topping tango. They also scored a total of 27 from the judges after performing their Jive to ‘Sound of the Underground’ by Girls Aloud.

The judges didn’t hold back on their feedback, telling Vicky that the dance was flat footed. Craig said the performance “needed more retraction” but that Vicky “came out and played the character brilliantly”, while Motsi agreed there were mistakes, but called Vicky ‘”our sunshine”. Meanwhile, Anton sat on the fence, telling the pair that it was “not your best dance but not your worst”.

Could the curse of going first rear its ugly head once again and see Balvinder and Julian miss out on dancing in Blackpool?

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
