NFL fans have had enough of Cam Newton going after the New England Patriots and their star quarterback, Drake Maye. The Pats became the first team to win nine games this season after beating the New York Jets 27-14 on Thursday night.
The performance drew high praise for Mike Vrabel’s team, but not everybody is convinced they deserve all the flowers they are receiving right now. During Friday’s edition of ESPN’s First Take, Newton downplayed the Patriots’ record, saying they hadn’t played enough good teams to have people so fired up.
“It has fool’s gold written all over it,” Newton said. “…Middle of the mall. And yes, is Drake Maye playing good football? Absolutely. I would like to attest his great play to one specific person that I know too well, Josh McDaniels.

“…The thing I have a problem with is if you keep playing sorry scrubs, then you’re going to have this falsetto of a mentality going into the playoffs. And it has one-and-done written all over it. Give me the Indianapolis Colts.”

Fans didn’t appreciate Newton’s comments and called him out on social media.

Cam Newton was called a hater by Patriots fans, while they continued to remind him of his bad performance in Super Bowl 50.
“Man it sucks that he’s ended up being a patriots hater. Really corny,” one fan said.
“Why has he been hating on us and drake the entire year lol,” another fan said.
“They beat the bills and Bucs he’s the real one hit wonder and bombed at the Super Bowl,” another fan said.
How did Cam Newton fare with the New England Patriots?
Cam Newton was a member of the Patriots from 2020 through 2021. He signed a one-year, $1.05 million deal to replace Tom Brady as the starting quarterback, but his first and only season as the starter wasn’t successful.
He went 242 of 368 for 2,657 yards and eight touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Newton carried the ball 137 times for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns, while New England finished with a 7-9 record.
The following season, he lost the quarterback competition with rookie Mac Jones, which resulted in Newton’s release in August 2021.
