Soweto Marathon is set to deliver an unforgettable experience

The 2025 Soweto Marathon is gearing up to be the most enjoyable and energetic edition yet.

The event will be taking place on November 29 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto, Johannesburg.

This milestone 30th edition promises to be an unforgettable experience, with organisers addressing previous challenges such as traffic congestion, sanitation, and water shortages.

The marathon, half-marathon, and 10km races will start at 05:00, 06:00, and 07:00, respectively.

Runners can expect a challenging yet scenic route, passing through iconic landmarks like Vilakazi Street and the Regina Mundi Church.

The event has retained its 2023 entry fees, with prices set at R380 for the marathon, R300 for the half-marathon, and R280 for the 10km.

The race expo will be open from November 26 to 28, allowing runners to collect their race packs, enjoy exhibitions, and have their queries answered.

Equal prize money will be awarded in both the men’s and women’s categories. The top prize for the 42.2km open winner is R250 000.

Soweto Marathon spokesperson Jabu Mbuli expressed confidence in the event’s success.

“The marathon will be a success due to the collaboration between sponsors, organisers, and stakeholders. We are looking forward to it,” said Mbuli.

Race director Danny Blumberg echoed this sentiment, highlighting the incredible spirit of the Soweto community and its dedicated runners.
