Investigation: Kansas City police track down, shoot armed robbery suspect at Northland apartments

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting with the Kansas City Missouri Police Force, meaning an officer fired their weapon in the line of duty sometime before 11 a.m. Sunday, November 16.

An outside agency, the Missouri Highway Patrol, has taken over per standard protocol to avoid a conflict of interest with a police force investigating a member of its own unit.

The shooting took place at The Retreat at Walnut Creek apartment complex off NE Parvin Rd. and N. Tracy Ave.

Police say it all started around 8:30 a.m. with an armed robbery at a gas station in the 8200 block of N. Church Rd.

That crime investigation led officers to a suspect at the apartment complex, where they say he pulled out a gun, and in self-defense, the officer fired, hitting the suspect.

That suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is expected to recover.

The officer involved was not hurt in the altercation.
