Investigation underway following police shooting Sunday morning in Northland

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating a shooting involving Kansas City, Missouri, police Sunday morning.
Troopers say the shooting took place in the 1200 block of NE Parvin Road in the Northland.
KSHB 41’s Lily O’Shea Becker went to the scene. She was told by a highway patrol spokesperson the suspect was involved in an armed robbery earlier Sunday at a gas station in the 8200 block of North Church Road at Missouri Highway 152.
KCPD was called to the gas station around 8:30 a.m. A store clerk said the suspect threatened them with a handgun.
“I saw the footage,” said Tina, a friend of the store clerk. “It was serious. He even cocked the gun, finger on the trigger.”
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
Through an on-scene investigation at the gas station, police identified the suspect and suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located around 10 a.m. at The Retreat at Walnut Creek apartments.
Only one KCPD officer responded to the complex.

MSHP said when the officer made contact with the suspect outside, the suspect presented a handgun.
The KCPD officer then fired and struck the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer was not injured, MSHP said.
While MSHP is investigating the shooting, KCPD is handling any criminal charges related to the incident. MSHP said the case will be forwarded to the Clay County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation is complete.
