Report: Canadian Josh Naylor finalizing five-year deal with Mariners

Naylor, 28, was traded to the Mariners from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the 2025 deadline and was a key part of the club’s run to the ALCS, where they lost in a thrilling Game 7 to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The first baseman clubbed 20 homers with 92 RBIs in 2025 and led all of the majors with 19 stolen bases following the trade for a career-high 30 on the season.

He slashed .340/.392/.472 with three pivotal homers for the Mariners in the playoffs, and became the first Canadian-born player to hit a playoff homer at the Rogers Centre.

The well-travelled Naylor was selected 12th overall by the Miami Marlins in 2015 before he was shipped to San Diego in 2016. He debuted in 2019 with the Padres before he was flipped to the Cleveland Guardians at the 2020 trade deadline. He appeared in 486 games in Cleveland before he was moved to Arizona in December of 2024.

The Mississauga, Ont., native has mashed 104 homers with 435 RBIs in his 745-game career with 55 stolen bases.
