First Alert Weather Day continues through Sunday. Rain and freezing rain will change to snow showers early Sunday morning, and persist all day.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The First Alert Weather Day will continue through 11 PM Sunday, unless otherwise noted. A messy mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain will continue tonight, changing to rain in most locations except east of the Green Mountains, where freezing rain will persist. By early Sunday morning, up to two tenths of an inch of ice is possible, so use extreme caution if you must travel.

Part 2 of the storm will begin Sunday morning. The threat for freezing rain will end as we get on the backside of the storm. Then the focus will be on persistent snow showers, mainly in the mountains. This will be the case all day and night, along with blustery and colder conditions. Be aware that while the valleys may be relatively quiet, things can go downhill quickly as you drive into higher elevations. Sunday night, blustery conditions will continue, with wind chills in the single digits…a good night to keep the pets indoors.

Mountain snow showers will continue for the Monday morning commute. Roads will remain slippery in the higher elevations, so allow extra time and slow down if you’re traveling. The coverage and intensity of the snow showers will start to wane on Monday, though persist into early Tuesday morning. Total accumulation from Sunday morning through Tuesday morning will be elevation-dependent, with little to no accumulation the valleys, to as much as 12 to 18 inches in the Northern Adirondacks and Northern Green Mountains. A general 2 to 4 inches can be expected in the higher elevations as a whole. The rest of Tuesday will have mostly cloudy skies and just some scattered snow showers. Highs will be in the 30s with lows in the upper teens to mid-20s.

We’ll finally get some quiet weather Wednesday and Thursday with partly sunny skies. It will remain chilly for mid-November with highs mainly in the 30s. Lows will be in the 20s. The next system is expected to affect us Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. This one looks weaker and wetter than the one we have now, but we’ll keep an eye on it.
