Post Malone, Jack White will star in NFL Thanksgiving halftime shows

Two Thanksgiving Day NFL halftime music headliners have been set. The Detroit Lions announced on Sunday that singer Jack White will perform at halftime of the day’s first game, a Green Bay Packers visit to Detroit’s Ford Field. Dallas fans will get a show from multi-genre performer Post Malone at the intermission of the afternoon game between the Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs.

White is a Detroit native and a 12-time Grammy Award winner. He rose to fame as the guitarist and lead singer of the White Stripes with then-wife Meg White. The duo formed in 1997 in Detroit and remained together until February 2011. In 2004, they won their first two Grammys for their album “Elephant.”

After the couple split, Jack White embarked on a solo career that produced six studio albums. He was named on Rolling Stone lists, in both 2010 and 2023, as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this month as a member of the White Stripes.

Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Richard Post, has released charting songs in pop, hip-hop, trap, R&B and country. Despite his massive commercial success, he has never won a Grammy. He holds the record for the most nominations without a win for a performing artist, with 18.

He first rose to prominence with his hip-hop single “White Iverson” in 2015, which led to him signing with Republic Records and releasing his first studio album, “Stoney” in 2016. On it was the song “Congratulations,” featuring Quavo, Post Malone’s first Diamond-certified hit. He’s had three Hot 100 No. 1 singles; one of them, “Sunflower,” was released alongside the 2018 animated movie “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” It became the highest-certified song in Recording Industry Association of America history, a record it no longer holds.

Malone will begin a world tour shortly after Thanksgiving, with his first show set for Dec. 5 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He grew up in Texas as a fan of the Cowboys, according to the team, and performed “America the Beautiful” before the Super Bowl in 2024.

The Cincinnati Bengals will visit the Baltimore Ravens in the final Thanksgiving game this year.
