84-year-old woman dies after house fire in Yorkville, police investigating

An 84-year-old woman has died after a fire broke out late Saturday night in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood, police say.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Avenue Road and Boswell Avenue, south of Davenport Road, just after 11 p.m. for reports of a house on fire.
The woman was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police confirmed in an update shortly before 8 a.m. that she succumbed to her injuries.
In a post on X, Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop thanked firefighters for their “heroic efforts” and their “commitmnt to serving the residents of Toronto.”
He also noted that this fatality is the 15th fire death in the city in 2025.
“This tragedy weighs heavily on us all,” he wrote.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Road closures are expected in the area as the investigation continues.
