I’m A Celeb: Where Is The Jungle Campsite?

Nothing screams Christmas countdown quite like watching the rich and famous chomp down on some kangaroo balls and vomit fruit – which is exactly why we’re thrilled that I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! is back on our screens.

This year, a whole host of new celebs have headed down under, with the likes of Ruby Wax, Jess Glynne, Angry Ginge, and Aitch hoping to be crowned king or queen of the jungle. Hosts Ant and Dec are back, with the public voting which celebrities will take on the Bushtucker trials (although there is one new rule, which sees campmates only able to do two trials in a row before being exempt from the next one.)

As the first episode aired, we watched all our contestants get stuck into their new life in the iconic I’m A Celebrity camp – and there’s one thing on all of our minds. Where is I’m a Celebrity filmed, and can we visit the jungle?

Where is I’m a Celebrity filmed?

It’s no secret that I’m a Celeb is filmed in Australia, with our campmates heading down under to film the ITV show – but where exactly is the jungle?

I’m a Celebrity does in fact take place in a real Australian jungle. While the first ever series was filmed somewhere in Queensland, series two onwards has taken place in the wilderness of New South Wales. (All, that is, apart from our brief visit to a haunted Welsh castle courtesy of COVID.)

A somewhat controlled jungle, the I’m a Celebrity campsite is located in the Springbrook National Park. The 15,310 acre rainforest is situated near the Queensland border and Murwillumbah, about an hour car ride south of Brisbane. The exact spot where the celebrities are eating, sleeping, and bushtucker trial-ing is called Dungay Creek, a disused banana plantation facility.

Alongside the purpose-built campsite and trial areas, Dungay Creek also has on-site medical facilities and containers for prop storages. It’s previously been reported that the campsite does have a retractable canopy to help fend off any torrential rain, with former campmate Lauren Booth also revealed that the infamous waterfall shower is also man-made.

Can you visit the I’m A Celebrity campsite?

No, you can’t visit the actual I’m A Celeb campsite. It’s on private land, making it unaccessible to the public. The restricted area is exclusively used for the show’s filming, as well as for some international versions of I’m a Celebrity (including German, US, and some of the Australian series.)

However, you can visit the wider areas of the beautiful Springbrook National Park! With walks, waterfalls and wildlife, it’s a beautiful spot for anyone looking to get outdoors. If you’re really hoping for a taste of jungle life, you can also visit The Settlement – a dedicated campsite area within the National Park.

Is the I’m a Celebrity jungle dangerous?

Every year runs the risk of some unexpected visitors slithering their way into the I’m A Celeb jungle.  Prior to the show beginning, executive producer Olly Nash revealed how he’s seen ‘more snakes’ than ever before, with up to seven big pythons spotted in camp.

Given they’re in the jungle, it’s unsurprising that some native wildlife – including spiders, bugs, rodents and snakes – might make their way onto the I’m A Celebrity camp. But when it comes to bugs, our celebs will be completely fine. As well as having medics on-site for any bites or stings, it’s reported online that there’s also wildlife experts on hand ready to monitor and relocate anything that does find its way onto the camp.

While most of the wildlife is harmless, advice is to always be cautious when exploring the National Park. In fact, the Springbrook National Park website warns that the biggest danger in the rainforest is actually from being careless around the cliffs or from ‘diving or jumping into creeks.’

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airs every night at 9pm on ITV1, STV, ITVX, and STV Player.
