Uisce Éireann crews are currently working to restore water supply following a “major burst” to a water main in Cork city.
The burst is impacting water supply to homes and businesses in the following areas:
- Blackrock Road
- Boreenmanna Road
- Ballinlough Road
- Douglas Road
- South Douglas Road
- Capwell Road
- Summer Hill South
- Quaker Road
- High Street
- Infirmary Road, and surrounding areas.
Uisce Éireann, formerly Irish Water, said that expert water services crews have been dispatched to investigate and carry out repair works, and that “every effort is being made to complete this work as quickly as possible.” James Goulding, Operations Manager for Uisce Éireann in Cork city added: “We understand the inconvenience that unplanned outages can have and would like to assure customers that we are doing everything we can to restore the water supply as quickly as possible. Crews have been mobilised, and we will continue to keep the community updated as the works progress.”
The company also explained that during and following any significant activity on the water network, “we usually see increased instances of sediment becoming dislodged from the old cast iron pipes, resulting in increased reports of discoloured water at customers taps.”
As water returns, customers may experience some short-term discolouration. In the event of discolouration, running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes will usually restore the water to a clear colour. More information https://www.water.ie/help/supply/after-an-outage
