Universal has unveiled a new clip from upcoming fantasy epic “Wicked: For Good,” exclusively on Peacock.
The clip features stars Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Ariana Grande (Glinda) and Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard). Other “For Good” cast members include Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh, Marissa Bode, Colman Domingo and Bowen Yang.
First reactions to “Wicked: For Good” from the film press were glowing in late December, possibly signaling success come Oscar season. The first “Wicked” earned 10 nominations at last year’s Academy Awards and took home honors for best costume design and achievement in production design.
“Wicked: For Good” is expected to again earn 10 nominations at this year’s Oscars, including nods for Erivo and Grande for best actress and best supporting actress, respectively. If they both repeat, they would become the seventh and eighth performers in Oscar history to be nominated twice for the same role.
During a recent Q&A promotion for the film, both stars shared how the musical shaped them as performers and people. Erivo shared her memory of seeing the musical for the first time at 25.
“I had not seen the musical,” Erivo said. “I saw it when I was 25 and took myself for a single date for my birthday, and that place that made me feel safe, I ended up being in.”
An emotional Grande discussed how the role of Glinda allowed her to reconnect with her love of acting.
“I think that spark of connection to my craft was also pretty disconnected for a little while,” Grande said. “It really felt like safe again to fall in love with creating and like maybe I was being seen for the first time.”
