Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson might be having a slow start to the 2025-26 season, but he has found a way to lead the entire NHL in this category.

Coming into the 2025-26 season, the Vancouver Canucks’ main goal was to find a way back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and if they want to to become a reality, they’re going to need more out of forward Elias Pettersson who has struggled to find the back of the net this season with four goals in 19 games and just 30 shots, an average of 1.57 per night.

“I think he’s been handling it really well. I’ve been very, very proud of Elias’ two-way game. He came in in good shape for training camp and was invested right away. He’s built a great relationship with Adam Foote, the Head Coach, and being part of the leadership. I think his two-way game and his defensive game has been really good and the reality here is the game in Washington when we lost three players, two centers, in one game, he’s been taking on a lot of heavy matchups. I see a lot of growth in his game and yeah, I think if you ask him too, I think he will say he needs to shoot the puck a little bit more because he’s had chances. But I think that’s part of confidence.” Allvin said.

Vancouver Canucks’ Elias Pettersson leads NHL in very intriguing category one month into season

On the defensive side of the puck and in his own zone, Elias Pettersson has played quite well and has probably prevented quite a few goals too with the way he’s been blocking shots early on in the season.

In a post on social media, the Vancouver Canucks highlighted Elias Pettersson and his willingness to sacrifice his body to get the two points, sharing that the 27-year-old leads all forwards in the National Hockey League with 41 blocks and is the only forward in the top-25 in blocked shots.”Body on the line, every single night.

It’s All in the Details for Elias Pettersson.” the Canucks said.

They added, “Pettersson leads the league in blocked shots by a forward through the start of the season.”

While the lack of scoring and shooting is frustrating, the fact Elias Pettersson looks more engaged in the play than he did at all last season is an encouraging sign and hopefully, the goals will start coming for him in the weeks ahead.

Do you think Elias Pettersson will find a way to bounce back offensively once the team returns to full health and he has less responsibility?
