TEMPE, Ariz. –The Georgia State men’s basketball team got a 19-point showing from the bench, but fell 75-62 to the Arizona State Sun Devils on the road Monday.

The Panthers had three players score in double figures, led by Malachi Brown, who had 15 points and four assists. Jakai Newton tacked on 11 points and nine rebounds and Micah Tucker helped out with 11 points and two steals.

The Georgia State offense made hay from deep, pouring in nine threes on 25 attempts. Ayouba Berthe hit three treys for the Panthers in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 34-30, Georgia State went on a 9-0 run with 4:17 left in the first half to take a 39-34 lead, a score that would hold until halftime. Georgia State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 39 points.

Georgia State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Tucker’s three, to grow the lead to 48-37 with 17:02 to go in the contest. Arizona State then asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 38-14 the rest of the way to hand Georgia State the 75-62 loss. Georgia State got out on the break in the period, scoring five fast break points.
